Volunteerism, The Guiding Light for San Antonio,
TX Real Estate Agent, Nancy Halvorson!

(Connect2Agent, August 2008)

I asked Nancy Halvorson about her "out-of-real estate" experiences and the flood gates opened as she shared with me her involvement in a number of organizations. She is active on the church council and outreach committees of her congregation. She is diligent in her efforts to invite, and works at creating a "welcoming environment."

Nancy serves as treasurer of the Alamo Heights Pool Sharks.  This is a summer swim league for children ages 6-15. Their purpose is to "instruct and encourage swimmers through stroke development, accompanied by strength and endurance exercises."  Who knows, there may be a budding Michael Phelps right there in Alamo Heights!

Participation in the local Habitat For Humanity program is very dear to Nancy's heart.  Each year volunteers build homes in the area.  She enjoys working on the construction site, and also plays a role behind the scenes with coordinating work schedules and providing lunches to the work site.  Habitat
for Humanity helps buyers with interest free loans. Persons who are employed, but do not qualify for a conventional home loan, can procure a loan for which they will repay the principal only. Nancy referred to this as a "Hand Up" as opposed to a "Hand Out." The pride of home ownership benefits so many. It is good for the community and Nancy told me that "children of home owners are known to exhibit better performance in school." It's a win-win for everyone.

Nancy is active in her neighborhood home owner's association. Here she is a member of the board of directors. This group offers networking and fellowship opportunities. They promote communication within the neighborhood. Membership is optional. This group can be especially helpful to families who are new to the area.

On her own home-front, Nancy and her husband have one daughter who will be entering high school this fall. She plays the viola which explains Nancy's interest in promoting the Youth Orchestra of San Antonio. Nancy enjoys all types of music and particularly enjoys attending performances at the Majestic Theatre in San Antonio. On the flipside of that coin is her love for the rodeo. She is a season ticket holder with prime seating in the first row of the lower balcony. Each year she gives away free tickets to her clients. In Nancy's words: "Those cowboys are somethin' else."

For 20 years Nancy worked in corporate finance and accounting. She still maintains her CPA license. Her husband is a computer professional for a major financial company, working primarily with their email and communications network.

Whether buying or selling a home let Nancy put her financial and real estate experience to work for you. To contact her directly call (210)365-8024 or email
